Why calibration alone often doesn't solve the problem
On modern Toyota and Lexus vehicles, calibration is only one step of the repair process. Certain safety-related control units are protected by additional cryptographic security mechanisms. After replacement, the manufacturer may require the ECU Security Key Writing procedure, which digitally links the new module to the vehicle's VIN.
Without completing this procedure, the vehicle may continue displaying ADAS faults even though the radar or camera is brand new, correctly installed, and has been successfully calibrated according to factory specifications.
Which components may require the ECU Security Key procedure?
Depending on the vehicle model and equipment level, the procedure may apply to:
- Front ACC radar
- Front Recognition Camera (FRC)

Why do standard diagnostics often show no faults?
This is one of the biggest diagnostic traps in the latest Toyota and Lexus vehicles. A standard fault scan frequently reports no active DTCs. The control units communicate correctly, power supplies are present, and yet the ADAS warning lights remain illuminated.
Only the Vehicle Control History function reveals the real cause of the problem. This is where the system reports that the ECU Security Key has not been registered with the vehicle, even though no active fault codes are stored.

What does proper diagnostics involve?

We most commonly encounter this issue after collision repairs, front-end repairs, bumper replacement, windshield replacement involving the front camera, installation of a new ACC radar, or replacement of Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) radars. All components may be fully functional and installed according to the manufacturer's procedures, yet the system still refuses to operate correctly.
